Don't miss a thing: everything you need to know...

  • Semester fee

To study at Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences, you only need to pay the so-called "semester fee". This fee is mandatory for all students, regardless of their income. There are no additional tuition fees.

By paying the "semester fee," you gain access to services provided by the Student Services Organization and your student representative body, the General Student Committee (AStA). And one more important thing: you’ll receive a semester pass for public transportation. The semester fee is due upon enrollment and each semester upon re-registration. The amount is determined anew each time.

For the 2026 summer semester, the semester fee at HSHL is 334.30 euros and is broken down as follows:

    • Social contribution to the Student Services Association: 110 euros
    • Deutschlandticket: 208.80 euros
    • Student body contribution (AStA): 15.50 euros

Students who are already enrolled must pay the tuition fee for the 2026 summer semester by January 31, 2026. An email with further information will be sent out well in advance.
Prospective students who wish to begin their studies at HSHL will find the relevant payment information in their admission letter.
Processing the payment takes a few days. Therefore, we ask for your patience until you receive the payment confirmation from us.

The semester fee for the winter semester 2026/27 will be determined shortly. Further information will be posted here at that time.

    More info

If a student withdraws from a semester as a precautionary measure, the semester fee will be refunded in full provided the student submits the withdrawal request and the refund request—which can be found in the Campus Office Online account—before the official start of the lecture period. Once the lecture period has begun, the fee for the "Deutschlandticket" will be refunded until October 31 for winter semesters and April 30 for summer semesters.

The application for a tuition refund can be submitted as a PDF file or as a scan/photo via email to studierendenservice.lp@hshl.de for students at the Lippstadt campus and to studierendenservice.hamm@hshl.de for students at the Hamm campus.
Alternatively, applications may be submitted by regular mail.

Refunds of semester fees are only possible in the context of withdrawal from the university or leave of absence semesters.
Student Services does not process the refunds itself but merely forwards the applications. Therefore, we cannot provide any information regarding the time it may take to receive a refund. In some cases, this may take up to 3 months.

  • Train ticket "Deutschlandsemesterticket"

Starting with the 2025/26 winter semester, Deutsche Bahn will change the way it provides the Germany Semester Ticket, and the OTS (Online Ticket Shop) used until now will no longer be available as of September 1, 2025. From that date on, the Germany Semester Ticket will only be available through the new RIDE platform.

To do this, you must log in to the RIDE Campus Portal and enter your information. As usual, the ticket entitles you to use public transportation in Germany. The specific terms of use—such as rules regarding accompanying passengers, validity for different modes of transportation, and the requirement to carry identification—are determined by the relevant public transportation authority.

The ticket is available online as a QR code. Printed copies of the QR code will not be accepted. We therefore recommend adding the digital Deutschlandsemesterticket to your Google or Apple Wallet so that you can still present the ticket without any issues in the event of a poor internet connection or server problems.

Please note: The ticket will only be available after you have successfully enrolled or re-registered for the following semester.

  • BAföG

BAföG is a form of financial aid provided under the Federal Training Assistance Act. You receive this money from the government while you are studying, and it is not repaid until after you graduate or withdraw from the program. However, not everyone is eligible for this aid.

It’s best to contact the Studierendenwerk Paderborn directly, as they are responsible for handling BAföG applications for Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences. There, you can ask any questions you may have regarding the application process, the duration of funding, the amount of funding, and so on.
