The vast majority of students live in rented accommodation. International students in particular often encounter problems with landlords or even fraud because they are unfamiliar with German tenancy law. That is why we would like to offer information and therewith help protect students from injustice and fraud.
In this English-language online information lecture, Ms. Turner, Regional Director of the German Tenants' Association NRW e.V. (Deutscher Mieterbund), provides information on all the important basics of German tenancy law.
1. Contracts, rent, deposits, termination, rights, and obligations
2. Possible problems and difficulties: What you should be aware of (subletting, rent fraud, utility bills).
Ms. Turner also provides information about the role of the German Tenants' Association, what it does, and why membership can be helpful.
