Public Lecture: The Influence of German History on the Mentality and on German Engineering

The lecture draws upon German political & economic history and its impact on German mentality. German inventors and engineers take the lead from late 19thCentury driven by the rational and quality-driven mentality which becomes a vital part of German Engineering.

Prof. Dr. Olaf Goebel

Professor Olaf Goebel is teaching Energy Engineering at Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Science. Prior to joining the University, he was Head of Engineering in Masdar Power, the energy project developer of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. He was in charge of all technological and techno-economic aspects of Masdar Power's renewable energy projects (total budget responsibility 4 billion US$). Prior to joining Masdar, Prof. Goebel was Head of the Renewable Energies Department, at Lahmeyer International, a leading international engineering consultancy. He began his career at ESA (European Space Agency) and then joined DLR (the German Aerospace Center) where he managed several CSP-related projects. Prof. Goebel holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Munich University, Germany. He also holds an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Aachen (RWTH), Germany.
