Modern structures in teaching organization

Network and management

Since its foundation in 2009, Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences has been working to establish a modern university management system by applying innovative organizational structures. This also includes establishing departments in Hamm and Lippstadt instead of conventional faculties, as is the custom in traditional German higher education institutions. The departments in Hamm and Lippstadt have very close links with each other, yet form independent units where teaching is organized across study programs and courses at each respective location.

Teamwork sets new impulses

The strong interdisciplinary alignment at Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences is reflected in the structure of its departments. The academic team of natural scientists, business and technology consultants, design specialists, mathematics experts, and engineers regularly exchanges ideas on the syllabus, the development of the university, and research projects. Here, looking beyond the horizon and across the boundaries of the disciplines is not just an idea—it is a reality. This cross-disciplinary network in academic programs is especially beneficial for the students as well. Depending on the focus of their study programs, they experience professors who constantly bring fresh new perspectives with their specific expertise.

The Heads of Department essentially function as deans and control the planning and implementation of academic operations. They have a wide range of responsibilities that include resource planning and personnel management. For example, their tasks include advertising for new positions and filling new professorships as well as managing financial resources, such as the procurement of new laboratory equipment. In close cooperation with the presidential committee and the responsible committees, the department heads also work on expanding the continually growing range of market- and practice-oriented offers for bachelor's and master's study programs. At the same time, they also serve as contact persons for the companies and corporations involved in research and development projects.
