Center for Research Management

Organization | Objectives | Copyrights and Related Rights | Inventions

Fostering successful research and knowledge transfer with a practice-oriented, hands-on focus.

Bundling competencies

As a central unit at Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences, the Center for Research Management (ZfF) took up operations on January 1, 2016.

The Center for Research Management functions as an interface between business and science. It promotes the expansion and intensification of research activities at HSHL and provides interdisciplinary and cross-functional support to all participants across the entire university.

This central operating unit bundles tasks such as the provision of information about funding opportunities and current calls for proposals, help in writing grant applications, support with research collaborations and the exploitation of research results.

Other areas the Center for Research Management focuses on include topics like start-ups, inventions, copyrights and related rights as well as bringing in experts and establishing practical partnerships alongside comprehensive research marketing and reporting. This knowledge transfer also aims at making teaching and studies more application-oriented and practical, while supporting quality assurance at Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences.

Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences offers future-oriented topics such as:

  • Autonomous systems
  • Information technology
  • Materials science
  • Human-computer interaction
  • Optical technologies
  • Electromobility
  • Production/Industry 4.0
  • Economics
  • Medicine and sports engineering
  • Energy and building technology
  • Computer visualization and design

Inventions, copyrights and related rights

Protecting knowledge - marketing innovations

By incorporating the subject area of "Inventions, copyrights and related rights" into the Center for Research Management, the university supports the innovative research and development output of its researchers and scientists.

The patent system stands at the interface between research, development and commercial application. This gives it a central role in application-oriented research at universities of applied sciences. Patents also make significant contributions to shaping and sharpening the profile of any university and stand as a measure of its performance.

When it comes to protecting their intellectual property, researchers, scientists and students therefore receive comprehensive advice and, if necessary, support in the implementation and enforcement of copyrights and related rights.

Inventions hold a special position. In principle, service inventions must be reported to the university, where they are examined for patentability and commercial usability and can be claimed by the university.

If Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences makes a claim, the inventor has the advantage that the university will actively pursue evaluation, patenting and exploitation and cover all costs.

In addition, all intellectual property (IP) services can be included in the exploitation.
Researchers, scientists and designers can use the stored forms to report work results of any kind; these will then also be reviewed with regard to their capability for patent protection and exploitation.
