Shaping the Digital Future Through Law
Artificial intelligence, digital platforms, and connected systems are fundamentally transforming businesses, authorities, and our society. These new technological possibilities are also giving rise to new legal questions: How can artificial intelligence be used? Who is responsible for automated decisions? How do we protect data and digital systems? And how can we reconcile innovation, security, and the law?
The "IT Law" bachelor's study program prepares you to actively help shape this digital future. You'll gain familiarity with the core areas of law while developing a solid understanding of information technology, artificial intelligence, data protection, cybersecurity, and digital business models.
This will qualify you for an increasingly in-demand role at the intersection of law and technology — in companies, public administrations, consultation firms, and many other areas of the digital society.
Your Study Progress
-
Laying the Groundwork – 1st and 2nd Semester
Understand the law. Grasp technology.
From an introduction to legal studies to IT for lawyers: You’ll explore the fundamentals of public law, civil law, and European law, as well as data protection law. In addition, you'll learn the technical fundamentals of operating systems and networks and gain insights into information technology for lawyers and case management.
-
Combining Law and Digitalization – 3rd and 4th Semester
From cybersecurity to artificial intelligence.
Now, the pieces are coming together: You'll explore IT law, data protection, digital products, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and governance. In the process, you'll not only learn about the legal requirements but also the technologies behind them—and develop an understanding of how law and technology interact.
-
Developing Your Own Profile and Practice – 4th and 5th Semester
Choose your area of focus.
You decide which track suits you best and deepen your knowledge in areas such as digital administration, the digital economy, or information technology. During the subsequent internship or exchange semester, you'll apply your knowledge for the first time over an extended period in a professional setting.
-
Digital World Expert – 6th and 7th Semester
In the final phase of the program, you will increasingly work independently on complex legal and technical issues. IT law, governance & compliance, international law, and intellectual property will prepare you for challenging cross-functional roles in business, administration, and consultation. Upon completion of your bachelor’s thesis, you will graduate with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree.
