Application for prospective international students

International Students | Requirements | Language Proficiency

Prospective students with foreign certificates must consider a few particularities regarding admission criteria and the application process when applying to study at Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences. This website gives a good overview of the most important topics.

Requirements

  • University entrance qualification (HZB)

To begin your studies at Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences, you need a university entrance qualification (HZB) that allows you to study in Germany. We will review your high school diploma and university transcripts to determine whether you are eligible for admission to a university. Uni-assist e.V. and the HSHL will not review your documents until you submit an official application during the application period.

However, you can obtain information from the DAAD and Anabin websites to check for yourself whether your academic records are sufficient for studying in Germany.

If your research shows that you are not eligible for direct admission to a university, in Germany, Student Services can also provide you with information on the paths you can take to still pursue studies, such as a Studienkolleg (preparatory college) or the TestAs process.

  • Language proficiency

You can find information on the language of instruction for your desired degree program on the respective website. You will then need to submit language certificates for German and/or English.

  • German-language study programs

As a prerequisite for a German-language degree program, Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences requires all applicants to have a high level of German proficiency – this is specified in the current enrollment regulations. To be admitted to a degree program taught in German, you must submit one of the following German language certificates:

HSHL does not offer German language courses before the start of studies. We therefore recommend that you take a German language course in your home country, for example at a Goethe Institute, well in advance. For language courses offered in Germany, you can search the DAAD database of language courses and short courses.

  • English-language study programs

English-language study programs require proof of English proficiency. The certificates accepted by HSHL can be found on the website of the respective programs.

This currently applies to the following degree programs:

    B.Eng. Electronic Engineering
    M.Sc. Intercultural Business Psychology

  • Program-specific requirements

No entrance exams are held at Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences. No pre-internships are required either. However, other specific requirements may need to be met depending on the study program. For example, some study programs require English skills or proof of certain course contents in a bachelor’s degree.

Please be sure to find out well in advance what specific requirements are required for the study program you wish to enroll in. Student Services can provide you with information on this in a consultation.

Here's how to apply:

The application period for the winter semester usually begins in early April for almost all study programs.
