Develop solutions for sustainability in the world of tomorrow
In a world that increasingly demands sustainable solutions, the bachelor's study program in "Sustainable Materials Engineering" offers you a unique opportunity to combine technological innovation with environmental responsibility. As a graduate of this study program, you will be specifically prepared to develop new materials and manufacturing processes with a focus on Sustainability.
The bachelor's study program in "Sustainable Materials Engineering" is an undergraduate, English-language program offered at Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences. It is designed for prospective students from Germany and abroad who are interested in an interdisciplinary education in the natural sciences and wish to focus on fundamental and applied issues in materials science. The program combines applied materials science with sustainability aspects and serves as the foundation for the master’s program of the same name, "Sustainable Materials Engineering". The program is rounded out by required modules for learning the German language.
Your study progress
-
Semesters 1–2: Fundamentals
During the first two semesters, you’ll lay the foundation for your academic success. You’ll gain in-depth knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, materials science, Sustainability, biology, bionics, and renewable raw materials—the ideal foundation for developing innovative and sustainable solutions for the future.
-
Semesters 3–4: Advanced Study
In the third and fourth semesters, you’ll deepen your subject knowledge and expand your skills in a targeted manner. You’ll engage intensively with topics such as chemistry, ecology, bionics, materials, plastics engineering, biomaterials, and recycling. In this way, you’ll develop the expertise needed to design materials that promote sustainability and innovative solutions for real-world applications.
-
Semester 5: Practical and Exchange Semester
In the fifth semester, you’ll gain valuable practical experience—either during an practical semester or during an exchange semester. This gives you the opportunity to apply your knowledge directly, for example, in companies with international operations. At the same time, you’ll not only expand your professional expertise but also make valuable connections and build a strong professional network.
-
Semesters 6–7: Elective Courses Phase and Bachelor's Thesis
In the sixth and seventh semesters, you’ll tailor your studies entirely to your interests. From a wide range of required electives, you’ll choose the topics that best align with your career goals, thereby refining your individual academic profile. The program culminates in your bachelor’s thesis, in which you’ll demonstrate how you successfully combine academic expertise with practical thinking.
